David Brown, Director of Governance, Standards & Safeguarding
David was one of Her Majesty's Inspectors (HMI) based in the North East, Yorkshire and the Humber region from 2010 to 2016. In this role David regularly led complex and high profile secondary and primary inspections and successfully supported schools judged by Ofsted as requires improvement or inadequate.
David was also the Ofsted National Lead for Computing and Online Safety. In this role he was responsible for leading Ofsted's curriculum and dissemination work in inspecting and reporting in these areas. David was responsible for the development of Ofsted policy and inspection documentation relating to online safety in safeguarding in all education, early years and social care inspection remits. He is committed user of social media and has taken an active role in the recent Ofsted 'myth-busting' agenda. David's presentations on inspection and online safety are published by Ofsted and have had over 100,000 downloads.
David is a qualified teacher, has a Master's degree in chemistry and holds the National Professional Qualification for Headship. Before working for Ofsted David had over 25 years' experience as a teacher and worked for 15 years in senior management roles.
Role of the Director of Governance, Standards & Safeguarding:
- Lead the Trusts' academy governance and safeguarding functions
- Contribute to overall Trust strategy and policy making and advise on the implications of decisions for academy governance and safeguarding
- Lead and oversee the analysis of primary and secondary standards of attainment and progress of pupils and students across the Trusts' academies in close association with the Directors of Primary and Secondary Academies
- Development and oversight of the quality assurance reviews of the academies including leadership, outcomes, teaching and learning, personal development, behaviour and behaviour
