Background

Northern Education Trust (NET) is a company limited by guarantee and an exempt charity (registration number 7189647). The Charitable Company’s memorandum and articles of association are the primary governing documents of NET.

NET was incorporated on the 15th March 2010 and became a Multi-Academy Trust on the 4th July 2012. It was sponsored by Northern Education Associates (NEA), a successful school improvement company. As of the November 2015, NET employed approximately 2100 members of staff with over 12,000 pupils within 20 academies. The principal activity of NET is the sponsorship of primary and secondary academies in the North of England.

Trustee Recruitment and Appointment

The recruitment and appointment of Trustees is set out within the Articles of Association and Scheme of Delegation. The term of office, number and types of trustees and specific role of the Chief Executive are all clearly defined.

Trustees Liability

Each member of the Charitable Company undertakes to contribute to the assets of the Charitable Company in the event of it being wound up while they are a member, or within one year after they cease to be a member, such amount as may be required, not exceeding £10, for the debts and liabilities contracted before they ceased to be a member.
