Grangefield?s Magic Formula Wins Academy Growing Support

Stockton?s The Grangefield Academy is proving very popular with students and parents alike after head of academy, Nikki Gibb, announced a record in the number of parents and Yr 6 students who have attended the academy?s two recent open evenings.

The surge in support appears to follow the academy?s best ever examination results in the summer, making it one of the most improved schools in the whole of the northeast region as well as the opening of its brand new state-of-the-art building in April next year, which will enable students to benefit from a large sports hall, activity studio, drama studio, main hall and dining hall as well as the usual teaching spaces.

An awareness-raising campaign has also contributed to the two successful events. This was launched by Grangefield students who took to the airwaves in September with a radio commercial they had helped produce proclaiming that The Grangefield Academy offers ?an education that?s out of this world?.

After conversion to an academy in January 2014, Grangefield has been sponsored by the Northern Education Trust (NET), a North East based multi academy trust, which sponsors a range of primary and secondary schools in the North East and North West of England including four others in Stockton.

Under NET?s guidance the school?s new academy status has heralded not only a different approach to learning, but day-to-day organisation, which has included a review of teaching and support staff as well as its focus on human scale education or ?schools within a school? which allows students to stay within their group of peers all the way through their secondary education so that each becomes well known by the teaching staff and feels part of ?Team Grangefield?.

Commenting on the events, Miss Gibb said: ?We are really pleased with the way the two open evenings were received. Parents liked our honesty and transparency and loved the enthusiasm around the academy. We had some great feedback about our science and maths and many parents complimented us on our ?schools within a school? system because they don?t want their child to be just a number.

?We also had a great range of activities organised during the evening including trampolining, training with Stockton Rugby Club, badminton, dance, biscuit decorating, CSI Science including the analysis of blood splatters, Halloween maths with potion ratios, tetrahedron making with Kier Construction ? our building contractor for the new building - sampling some French cuisine and a host of other entertaining things to do.

?We are all very excited about the future of The Grangefield Academy and I am certain that once we are in our wonderful new building, as our students said, we will be able to consistently deliver ?education that is out of this world.?
