Thorp Academy Celebrates Its Best Ever GCSE Results

We are delighted to report that Thorp Academy has gained its best ever GCSE results. This includes Thorp (a Northern Education Trust academy since September 2014) and all of its predecessor secondary schools.

An impressive 65% of students gained five or more A*- C grades including English and maths on first entry. That figure rises to 67% when taking into account students who have retaken subjects.

The figures show that Thorp Academy educational standards have risen significantly since the conversion to academy status in 2014.

Executive Principal, Jonathan Morris, is justifiably proud of what Thorp students have achieved. He said:

"These results are the outcomes of tremendous team work between staff and students. No less than 17 subjects have improved on their 2015 results. We are also delighted that the essential subjects of English and maths are performing well above national averages - that's a great bedrock for academic and career success.

?The improved progress of our students is palpable and it is most gratifying to see them respond to being stretched and challenged. A telling statistic is that 60% of this year group achieved at least one A or A* grade."

All in all, Thorp's exam results are further proof that Thorp Academy is on the rise and will continue to offer even greater opportunities to our young people, especially when our new building opens in spring, 2017.

Ian Kershaw, chief executive of Northern Education Trust, added:

?This is a tremendous set of results for Thorp Academy which is starting to make very good progress. These results demonstrate that with strong leadership, high quality teaching and the right commitment from our students, anything is possible. Thorp Academy students and all academy staff are to be congratulated.?
