Gateshead Firm Overcome Nationwide Competition to Clinch Broadband Deal

IT and data services specialist Aspire Technology Solutions has secured a 1m five-year contract to install its ultra-modern connectivity systems into 20 schools operated by the Northern Education Trust in the North East and Yorkshire.

In its first partnership with the trust, Aspire - which employs 115 people and has turnover of over 12m a year - will also deliver a comprehensive package of ongoing support across all sites over the lifetime of the contract.

The Gateshead firm overcame nationwide competition to clinch the deal, which bosses say confirms further its growing reach, influence and ambition within the UK's fast-expanding IT sector.

It also marks Aspire's second recent significant advance within the education arena, coming months after it won a potential ?8m contract to install reliable, upgradable super-fast connectivity into schools in Stockton on Tees, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Redcar and Sunderland.

Paul Shill, Senior Account Manager at Aspire, said: "To win this latest contract, we offered a highly competitive tender with the best technological solution.

"This is a highly significant success for us, and shows that we are a national brand, attuned to meeting a variety of IT requirements across many sectors.

"The Northern Education Trust is a well-known and respected organisation, and I am delighted that we are now providing the cutting-edge IT support that will benefit its work in the years ahead.

"The systems we are delivering across these 20 sites provide the trust with the advanced and reliable internet connectivity, and improved overall IT services, that exactly meet its requirements."

Ian Kershaw, chief executive of Northern Education Trust, added: "We are pleased to have appointed Aspire Technology Solutions as our IT partner and believe its team is perfectly suited to provide the kind of connectivity and comprehensive support we need between our 20 academies and our operational hubs.

"Digital technology plays a vital role in the fast-paced world of education and it is essential that we have first class internet connectivity and a rapid response if there is a problem.

"We are looking forward to developing our relationship with the Aspire team in our aim to provide a high quality teaching and learning environment for staff and students alike."

The contract will see Aspire install leased lines, which give internet connectivity, and provide SIP trunks the telephony lines that run over the internet into all locations. It will also deliver a firewall solution and content filtering.

Aspire's broad reach and the wide suitability and adaptability of products means it can work across sectors as diverse as health - it has NHS contracts - retail, construction, utilities, pharmaceuticals, fashion and the motor industry.

Established in 2006 by managing director Nigel Begg and technical director Chris Fraser, the award-winning company delivers hosted services, data centre solutions, communications and traditional IT support.

To satisfy its growth ambitions including achieving a 2020 turnover target of ?20m - it is investing ?1m to extend its Grade II 18th Century Heworth Hall headquarters, giving it capacity to employ an extra 40 staff.

The building upgrade comes five years after Aspire spent ?1m on its move into Heworth Hall, and two years after it invested ?1.3m on a data centre in its grounds.
