Children Welcome Gold Medallist to School during Sponsored Sports Event

Children at The Ferns Primary Academy in Bolton, which is part of the Northern Education Trust, have raised over £560 for charity.

The school has been working on British heroes and as part of this initiative, they discovered the 'Sports for Champions' charity, which supports young athletes who have just broken into the Team GB squad as athletes of the future.

In collaboration with Sports for Champions, the school welcomed Stefania Lenart, a sports aerobic athlete. Stefania gave an impressive presentation to the children which included a video of her sports aerobic routine when she won a gold medal.

Following this, the children completed a 'sponsored circuit' involving a series of three physical exercises, whilst getting tips from the athlete and were rewarded for their sponsorship efforts by having their photographs taken with the athlete and receiving signed copies.

Sponsorship will be split between funding for the school and the Sports for Champions charity.

The money for the school will be put towards sports equipment that will extend the opportunities for children to develop skills in sports such as athletics and gymnastics.

Principal, James Howard, said;

As part of a multi academy trust that is committed to encouraging healthy eating and healthy lifestyles, this was a perfect opportunity to put our ideas into practice.''We were looking for some inspirational heroes to promote healthy lifestyles and Sport for Champions were recommended to us. Stefania has won four world championship titles and is a great example to the children. Who knows, she may inspire an Olympian hero hiding amongst us!
