Outstanding Leader Heads Back North for New Role

A senior leader, currently working in an outstanding academy in the south, is heading back north where he grew up, to become the new principal at Kearsley Academy, which is one of 20 academies sponsored by Northern Education Trust (NET). He will take up his new role in September.

Steve West is an accomplished senior leader, having spent ten years with Harris Federation, a highly successful multi academy trust. He is widely experienced in school improvement and a Specialist Leader of Education.

Speaking about his new role, Mr West, said: "I am thrilled to be appointed as Principal at Kearsley Academy and to be joining an academy that is at the heart of its local community. It is a privilege to be given this opportunity and I am determined that the Academy will flourish.

"As an experienced school leader, I am passionate about working with young people as they look to develop their academic achievement in an innovative, inclusive and happy environment."

Jo Nolan, Executive Principal, added: "I am elated that we have such an outstanding leader joining us and, along with the rest of the staff, look forward to welcoming Steve to Bolton."

In making the announcement about the appointment on behalf of NET's Board of Trustees, Rob Tarn, Chief Executive Officer, commented: "This is wonderful news for Kearsley Academy. Steve is an experienced leader from an outstanding school and we are fortunate to have secured his appointment."

Mr West is local to the area of Kearsley. He grew up in Rossendale, was educated in Blackburn, graduated in Chemistry from the University of Manchester and is a current Master of Business Administration student with the University of Bradford.
