Northern Education Trust Secondary Academies Show Dramatic Improvement in Performance

2018 School GCSE Performance Tables published on 24 January 2019 by the Department for Education show substantial improvements for a number of Northern Education Trust Academies.

Compared to 2016, the year the current accountability framework was introduced, seven of the Trust's ten secondary academies are amongst the top 20% most improved schools nationally for the percentage of children achieving a 'standard' pass in both English and maths GCSEs. North Shore Academy in Stockton and Kearsley Academy in Bolton are amongst the top 10 most improved schools nationally in this all-important attainment measure. Thomas Hepburn (Gateshead), Dyke House (Hartlepool) and The Grangefield Academy (Stockton) were also amongst the top 3% of most improved schools nationally.

In terms of the headline Progress 8 measure, Kearsley Academy, The Grangefield Academy and North Shore Academy were in the top 3% most improved schools since 2016.

Rob Tarn, Chief Executive of Northern Education Trust said 'we are absolutely delighted with the improvements shown across the Trust and this is testimony to the hard work and dedication of our students and staff. The new NORTHERN model of school improvement has been rapidly devised and implemented in our academies and the impact of this model is evidenced in this dramatic improvement in performance. The improvements made in 2018 are the first step in our three-year journey to become a very high performing multi-academy Trust'.
